Doris Buvelot Harkins Doris was born on January 14, 1987, in San Francisco, California.
The oldest of 3 siblings, she grew up in a loving home that was regularly filled with music, dancing, and laughter.
Celebrations often brought her large extended, but close-knit, family together.
Her parents were her biggest supporters, and always encouraged her to follow her dreams.
And once she became your friend, you were friends for life.
While life had thrown obstacles in her way, being the determined person she was, Doris was living her best life.
She followed her dream of becoming a pediatric nurse.
And she had fallen in love.
In 2018 Doris was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Synovial Sarcoma.
Almost every year, for four years, she would seemingly go into remission, and the cancer would return more aggressively than before. And yet through numerous invasive surgeries and treatments, she persevered.
While it was difficult, she did not allow cancer to stop her from marrying her true love on August, 7th 2021.
At the end of 2022, Doris knew that her treatments had stopped working and her options had run out. In January 2023 surrounded by close friends and family she celebrated what she knew would be her last birthday. And on February 25, 2023, at the age of 36, her beautiful soul left us.
She wanted to be a nurse to help others and to start a family of her own. In honor of her legacy of generosity for her loving memory to continue, Doris's friends and family came together to make her last wish come true - to start a foundation to raise awareness and provide financial support for research to find a cure for the cancer that stole her's and so many other young lives.
TBD - possibly insert note from Adriana
