Doris Buvelot was born on January 14, 1987, in San Francisco, California.
The oldest of 3 siblings, she grew up in a loving home that was regularly filled with music, dancing, and laughter.
Celebrations often brought her large extended, close-knit, family together.
Her parents were her biggest supporters, and always encouraged her to follow her dreams.
And once she became your friend, you were friends for life.
Despite obstacles like her Lupus diagnosis, Doris—ever determined—was living her best life.
She followed her dream of becoming a pediatric nurse.
And she had fallen in love.
In 2018 Doris was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, synovial sarcoma.
Almost every year, for four years, she would seemingly go into remission, and the cancer would return more aggressively than before. And yet through numerous invasive surgeries and treatments, she persevered.
While it was difficult, she did not allow cancer to stop her from marrying her true love on August, 7th 2021.
At the end of 2022, Doris recognized that her treatments had stopped working and that her options had run out. In January 2023, surrounded by close friends and family, she celebrated what she knew would be her final birthday. On February 25, 2023, at the age of 36, her beautiful soul left us.
Doris dreamed of becoming a nurse to help others and of starting a family of her own. To honor her generous spirit and ensure her memory lives on, her friends and family united to fulfill her final wish: to create a foundation that spreads awareness, supports those facing similar diagnoses, and funds research to find a cure for the cancer that took her life—and the lives of so many other young people.
During one of the most difficult parts of her treatment, Doris was unable to have visitors due t her fragile immune system. But even in isolation, she was never alone. Her loved ones poured their hearts into letters and photos, which were gathered and turned into a book—a gift of love, strength, and hope. That book became one of her most cherished treasures. Today, it stands as a powerful reminder of the lives she touched, the love she inspired, and the enduring light she brought into the world.
